Why We Don't Rush Childhood at Village Playgarden

When Did Childhood Become Something We Needed to Hurry?

There seems to be so much pressure on young children these days. Learn to read earlier. Count higher. Be ready for kindergarten. Keep up with everyone else.

But what if some of the most important things children learn have nothing to do with how quickly they master their ABCs?
At Village Playgarden, we believe childhood is not a race. It is a wonderful, fleeting time for discovery, imagination, friendship, and growing into the person each child is meant to become.

And we believe children deserve the time to enjoy it.

Learning Happens in the Most Unexpected Moments

Watch a group of young children playing outdoors, and you might see one carefully balancing on a log, another collecting leaves, and two friends working together to build something from sticks and stones.

To an adult, it might look like ordinary play.

But look a little closer.

The child balancing is developing coordination and confidence. The children building together are learning to communicate, solve problems, and compromise. The child collecting leaves is observing nature, discovering patterns, and asking questions about the world.

These are important lessons, and they don't need worksheets or a classroom desk to happen.

At Village Playgarden, our Waldorf-inspired approach recognizes that young children learn naturally through movement, imagination, meaningful experiences, and relationships with others.

Giving Children the Freedom to Grow

Every child develops at their own pace.

Some are naturally adventurous, eager to climb, explore, and try something new. Others prefer to watch quietly before joining in. Some express themselves through art, while others discover their confidence through storytelling, music, or friendships.

There is room for all of them at Village Playgarden.

Our experienced teachers create a warm, nurturing environment where children ages 2–6 feel safe, respected, and encouraged to explore their interests.

Through imaginative play, creative activities, gentle daily rhythms, and time outdoors, children develop independence, resilience, kindness, and a genuine love of learning.

Nature Doesn't Hurry, and Neither Should Childhood

October brings subtle changes to the gardens and natural spaces around Arcadia. Leaves begin to fall, mornings grow cooler, and children discover something different outdoors almost every day.

A fallen leaf can become a treasure. A garden can inspire a hundred questions. A simple walk can turn into an unforgettable adventure.

Our nature-based preschool environment gives children opportunities to experience these moments firsthand, including outdoor play, gardening, and visits to nearby natural spaces.

There is no need to rush from one discovery to the next. Sometimes the greatest learning happens when children are simply given time to wonder.

Come See Childhood at Its Best

Choosing a preschool is about more than preparing your child for the next grade. It is about finding a place where they feel happy, confident, curious, and truly cared for.

Village Playgarden welcomes families from Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, East Pasadena, and surrounding communities.

If you're looking for something a little different for your child, we'd love to show you what makes our school so special.

Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year is open, with limited spaces available.
