What does a typical day at Village Playgarden look like?
It is less about watching the clock and more about following a gentle, familiar rhythm. Children have time to play, explore, create, make friends, spend time outdoors, and simply enjoy being children.
At Village Playgarden, children of different ages learn and play together in a warm, nature-centered community. Mornings often begin outdoors, where children climb, dig, build, imagine, and invent games together. These everyday experiences help children develop coordination, confidence, creativity, communication, and social awareness through meaningful play.
Village Playgarden’s school-year program runs from September through May, with 3-, 4-, and 5-day options for families. The program combines outdoor play, Waldorf-inspired activities, arts and crafts, imaginative play, and regular visits to nearby natural spaces, including the LA Arboretum.
Learning From One Another
One of the special qualities of Village Playgarden is its mixed-age environment.
Younger children naturally learn by watching, imitating, and joining in. Older children have opportunities to help, encourage, and take on leadership roles. Teachers remain close and engaged, gently supporting social interactions, helping children work through disagreements, and modeling respectful communication.

A Day With Rhythm, Creativity and Connection
Throughout the day, children gather for shared snacks, storytelling, music, creative activities, and seasonal experiences. Quiet moments are balanced with movement and outdoor exploration so the day feels full, but never rushed.
Regular outings are also an important part of life at Village Playgarden. Neighborhood walks, nearby parks, nature spaces, and special seasonal trips give children opportunities to build confidence while becoming familiar with the wider world around them.
For families especially interested in deeper outdoor learning, Village Playgarden also offers a Forest Kindergarten program for older preschool-aged children, with an emphasis on nature immersion, imaginative play, movement, and social development.
Fall Enrollment Is Now Open
Village Playgarden is now enrolling for the 2026–2027 school year, with limited spaces remaining. The school serves children ages 2–6 from Arcadia and surrounding communities including Sierra Madre, Monrovia, and East Pasadena.
